Flight #105

6 January 2024 • Andy Jackson Training Hill • Hang I - Beginner

Flew my own Falcon 195 off the 75' training hill at Andy Jackson and did great in 2mph wind. I had 3 launches and landings. First flight was odd. I had a crosswind from the east, under the starboard wing, which pushed me left as I launched. I ended up over the bushes, but I was high enough that I pulled in, regained enough speed to make a sharp right turn, and got back on course to land on the grass. However, I was looking at a target on the horizon, and pretty much did a belly-landing because I forgot the ground slopes upward. So, I was far lower than expected when I tried to run. My second flight was really good though. I worked on maintaining the bottle grip off launch and made sure to keep my hands low when I started my launch. I reminded myself to fly the glider and not let it get off by a crosswind and I did a nice straight launch. I also remembered to focus on a much closer target for landing, like an orange cone on the field, not the horizon. Third launch and landing was also very good. I compensated for a slight eastern crosswind on the port wing on launch, stayed nice and straight, and ran out my landing nicely. Made it to the grass on all 3 flights. I now have around 24 flights from the 75' Andy Jackson training hill. That makes about 249+ foot launch flights.
