Flight #108

28 January 2024 • Dockweiler • Hang I - Beginner

My twenty fifth day of flying at Dockweiler. Flew the Condor 330 all day because they set up 2 of them. Excellent day. Still had around 5 flights. That puts me at about 240+ flights at the beach. The winds were light, around 2mph to 6mph all day, but they were fairly steady. Had 2 crappy launches at the start, but I got back in the swing quickly. I wasn't letting the glider slide in my hands, and a bunch of instructors chided me, but I still got in the air. After watching back video clips of the flights, they were still really good, and far better than the critiques sounded. In fact, some of those instructors had posted recent videos online where they did the exact same thing. Erika had me practice some beach runs, no handed. I have never tried that, and thought it was a fun idea. I did it and it worked really well; held my angle of attack, started to run, let the glider lift, then once my hangstrap was tight, I just let go and kept accelerating. It was a good exercise to see the glider stays at trim, once it starts to fly. The first try was perfect and stayed straight. The second attempt, the wind started to push the glider around a little, but then I just gently gave it some minor inputs and got it back on course. Cool idea to try. My later flights of the day, my launches and flights were excellent. I flew extremely far and almost reached the water. No one else was able to fly that far except Erika Klein. That gives me a total of about 265+ foot launch flights.
