Flight #72

21 May 2023 • Dockweiler • Hang 0 - Student

Did about 10 flights at Dockweiler this day! 10! That gives me around 22 foot launches recently. About 30 in my lifetime. Trained with Bob Bendetson at Windsports. My first time training with a lot of other students. There were 2 girls and 3 guys. I enjoyed the company of others. We got to observe each other and learn from each other which was very beneficial. I actually had one of the worst flights - launching in a righthand turn which sent me sideways into the dunes, but I didn't break anything this time. But I also had the best flight out of everyone and was the only pilot to get past the windsock on the beach. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm improving. I need to control the glider better on launch and I need to hold the bar in longer. Bob had a great analogy that airspeed is like riding a bicycle - 1MPH is hard to balance, but 5MPH is easy. It doesn't take a huge increase in wind speed to make a huge difference in how hard the glider is to launch and control.
